Traffic credits, monitoring, and overage handling
Pre-charged balances that absorb daily allowance overages, plus how to monitor live bandwidth and daily traffic from the portal.

Traffic credits are pre-charged balances that absorb daily allowance overages before the 1Mbps rate limit kicks in. Credits never expire, can be topped up at any time, and are billed at the standard per-GB rate.
How consumption works
- Daily allowance is consumed first (no charge — included in your plan).
- When daily allowance is exhausted, traffic credits are consumed at the standard per-GB rate.
- When credits are exhausted, the instance is rate-limited to 1Mbps until the next daily window.
Monitoring usage from the portal
Two views in the Lite portal cover the full picture — one for real-time throughput, one for aggregate consumption over time.
- Per-instance Bandwidth view (Compute → Cloud → Instances → your instance → Bandwidth) — live throughput in Mbps, refreshed in real time. Use this to watch spikes, debug a noisy workload, or confirm a deploy is using the network as expected.
- Account-wide Traffic page (Compute → Cloud → Traffic) — daily traffic usage aggregated in GB across every instance, with history and breakdowns. Use this to track how close you are to your daily allowance and to plan credit top-ups before you need them.
Topping up credits
Credits can be purchased on demand directly from the Traffic page. Charges go through the same Stripe-processed billing as your monthly plans, and the new balance is available immediately. Because credits never expire, you can top up well in advance of any expected spike — there is no penalty for carrying a large balance.
Tip
Set a low-balance alert so credits never silently run dry. The alert fires by email and in the portal — combine it with the daily usage trend on the Traffic page to time top-ups before they become urgent.
